A Barbecue Legacy
It is easy to understand how Dickey’s is both that authentic, family-owned barbecue joint around the corner, and the largest barbecue restaurant company in the world.
What started as a small, single barbecue stand in Dallas, Texas, 80 years ago has been passed down through three generations and now extends to over 600 restaurants worldwide.
Over the years, people have asked how Dickey’s stays authentic. “Simple, we still prepare things the way my grandfather and father did. We work with suppliers to get the best cuts of meat. We use our secret seasoning to dry rub our meats, then we load them into real barbecue pits. Every restaurant has a real wood-burning barbecue pit. You can always smell the smoke from the parking lot.” Roland Dickey, Jr., CEO of Dickey’s Capital Group. Dickey’s original restaurant on Central expressway in Dallas, Texas, has the distinction of being the city’s oldest, continuously operating restaurant that has never moved, changed names or changed ownership. It’s that legacy and those family recipes, that inspired and guides everything now available on barbecueathome.com.
“We do barbecue, not rocket surgery around here. It’s a great way to make a living. So, we have to serve the best barbecue to folks and do a great job. I don’t want to get fired. I’m not cut out for anything else.” says Mr. Roland Dickey, Sr., founder of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.
With the third generation of the family leading Dickey’s Barbecue, we are still intimately focused on ensuring that when a guest sits down at any of our restaurants around the world, their entire experience is uniquely Dickey’s - authentic Texas barbecue and genuine service that will bring them back time and time again. That quality commitment extends to every recipe and product offered on barbecueathome.com. That’s what still gets us up in the morning.
“Our focus on authentic, quality barbecue in our restaurants is what has lead us to bring so many parts of the barbecue business ‘in house’ and ‘online.’ From making our own sauce and spices to barbecueathome.com to hand making our craft sausages - we see our mission as protecting, preserving and serving the highest quality Texas barbecue to as many folks as we can everyday. Barbecue at Home by Dickey’s enables us to send our great barbecue to so many more folks, and extend that Texas experience.” says Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants Inc.
